When I took this position, the Military Extension Internship Program was only an idea: recruit college students and recent graduates into internships with military child and youth programs in order to meet the increasing demand for mid-management professionals in this field. The program would include an orientation for incoming interns and evaluating the program periodically throughout their experiences, as well as tracking how many interns continue onto jobs in the Department of Defense.
In this position, I have gained experience in event planning, project management, recruitment, evaluation, and coaching. Some of my major accomplishments included:
- Over six intern cohorts, the number of applications increased from twelve to an average of eighty, and the number of interns in each cohort increased from seven to an average of thirty-three.
- 155 college students and recent graduates interened with the program.
- Of 52 program alumni who are in the work force, 21% gained employment with Department of Defense Child and Youth Programs, which means that the program is accomplishing it's goals.
Student Technician and Clerical Assistant
Physical Facilities Computing Services
Purdue University
June 2003-May 2008 (four years, eleven months)
From high school through my senior year at university, I worked for a computing support service on Purdue's campus. While initially this position was a summer job, I later transitioned to working part-time during the academic year, and then full-time during the summer. While this position was my introduction into the workforce, the length of time I spent with Physical Facilities Computing gave me a wonderful opportunity for professional growth.
As a student technician and clerical assistant, I gradually acquired more and more responsibilities, and eventually provided the main clerical support for the department. A few of my tasks and accomplishments involved the following:

- I managed day-to-day tasks that included copies, filing, campus errands, and ordering office supplies, and regularly handled confidential documents with discretion.
- I collaborated with other student employees to perform annual hardware inventory. We signed up to inventory the different buildings on campus that housed the department's hardware, and afterwards I collected the notes from the other students, and updated an Access database to correct any discrepancies.
- In order to organize an abundance of software utilized by the department, I created and maintained a software inventory system.
